COUPLET CHORUS REBUTTAL: EPISODE NO. 68

...

The long-awaited Law on Gender Equality was adopted in the Serbian Parliament, as well as amendments to the Law on Discrimination. The MPs experienced the parliamentary debate differently, so for example, the United Serbia leader asked the Minister for Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue for support on a favourite topic – that he was falsely accused of procuring, while the opposition were real violators.

“I haven’t heard you talk about that case, but you have to ask for that case to be accelerated for the sake of the job description and the function you represent. I really trust you.”

The Code of Ethics of the Government of the Republic of Serbia prohibits all members of the Government from publicly commenting on court, investigative and police proceedings, and that is good, and I adhere to that.”

“There is a report signed by Iva Đilas and that report exists. All they have against me is just hearsay – they wanted to get back at me for asking about Đilas, [for asking if] it is true that you earned so much money, if it is fair that you took the money to some other countries, if you paid taxes to the state of Serbia? That fake dirty attack on me started right away tomorrow. Please give me an answer regarding the report of Dragan Đilas’s wife.”

“The good news for you is that I am a member of the Government, and not the chairperson of the Assembly session. That’s good news. So, I have the obligation to answer every question, I am always at your disposal. If offered to exceed the described competencies, even for an iota, as a member of the Government, I am not at anyone’s disposal nor will I ever be.”

Some MPs submitted amendments to the Law on Gender Equality, explaining that women’s occupations’ names or the introduction of biological instead of gender equality – are destroying the Serbian tradition.

“But it’s excellent that you’ve mentioned traditional values. How far into tradition [should we go]? Seventy years ago, I couldn’t choose to go to school, a hundred years ago, I didn’t have the right to vote, 150 year ago I didn’t have the right to leave the house, 200 years ago they married me to whomever they wanted, 50 years ago they prescribed how many children I will give birth to, 40 years ago they decided about my body. What tradition do you really want to keep in our present life?”

A large number of MPs made sure that we do not forget what is important when it comes to human rights and all other topics. Protect Aleksandar Vučić and his family.

“Because without Aleksandar Vučić, there will be no fight against the mafia, there will be no vaccines, no economic growth, no respect for human and minority rights.”

“Without Aleksandar Vučić at the head of the Republic of Serbia, there will be no progress of this country, no higher salaries, no safer future for all our children.”

In the end, journalist Milorad Vukašinović was elected a new member of the REM council, without even hinting why he is a better choice than his opponent, also a journalist.

For the Open Parliament, Mirjana Nikolić.
